Coach Mark Spinola is in his 12th year as the Head Coach of the MSC Swim Team. Coach Spinola serves as an Assistant Swim Coach for the Franklin Regional Varsity Swim Team and is a Volunteer Assistant Coach with the Franklin Regional Middle School Swim Team. Coach Spinola is also a part-time Assistant Coach for the Franklin Area Swim Team. Previously, he coached the Gateway High School Varsity Swim Team.
Coach Spinola is a USA Swimming certified swim coach as well as a USA Swimming certified stroke and turn judge. He is certified by the American Red Cross in Aquatic Life-Saving, AED and CPR. He has served as Vice President of the Board at Murrysville Swim Club and in the past, served on the Franklin Area Swim Team Board. A resident of Murrysville for over 18 years, Mark is married to Stacey Spinola, owner of Spinola's Bake Shop, and together they have 5 children. They have been members of MSC for approximately 18 years.
Coach Spinola teaches Economics and Advanced Placement United States Government at Gateway High School. He has a master's degree in Counseling and a teaching certificate from Duquesne University and a bachelor's degree in History and Psychology from The University of Pittsburgh.
Anyone who has been a swimmer for Coach Spinola will tell you that he is very competitive and like most coaches, he loves to win. Above all, he has learned that a swim team's purpose is to promote fun, fitness and friendships as well as skill development, sportsmanship and building self-confidence. As Head Coach of the MSC Swim Team, he will work with his fellow coaches, our Swim Moms, parents and athletes to make a fun and successful season.
Returning for a third season on our coaching staff is Seth Spinola!
Seth has been swimming since the age of 9 and is a former member and the heart of the Blue Wave Team! He is currently studying to be an early childhood education teacher. While working towards his degree in Early Childhood Education, Seth is also working as an instructional aid at Franklin Regional Primary School. Seth joined the Franklin Area Swim Team (FAST) coaching staff in 2023 . He also likes hanging out with his friends, swimming, helping his grandparents, bowling, and hanging out with his dog. He is looking forward to seeing all of our young swimmers develop their skills over the summer and hopes they have as much fun swimming at MSC as he did!
His favorite events are the 200 Free, 100 Fly, 200 Free Relay, and 400 Free Relay
